“What if a superpower that held one of the keys to existence was hidden in both women and men? Our thoughts dictate our existence in more ways than we can comprehend. Essentially, we become what we think. The early records of many scriptures highlight the relevance and importance of the spoken word, which always follows a prior thought. Very few among us have had the opportunity to elevate our consciousness and become aware of the ongoing noise in our heads. That small voice within constantly reminds us of what is or isn't.
What if we could raise our conscious awareness above the autopilot neuronal thought patterns? Much like a fish in water, unaware at times that it's swimming, we could lift ourselves above the relentless self-talk. I remember vividly the day this breakthrough occurred to me over a decade and a half ago. I had just finished reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I was sitting in Maurice Gibb Memorial Park in South Beach, overlooking the bay in the late afternoon. The golden sun sparkled on the small waves of the bay. A gentle spring breeze surrounded me as I allowed myself to appreciate the beauty and forget, for a moment, all the painful instances of my existence. My life was a rat race of unbearable inadequacies to many, including myself. This revelation happened almost instantaneously, which I attribute to an act of Grace. For the first time in my life, the little voice in my head fell silent, and I peered into the true nature of reality. My senses expanded beyond the normal, and the mesmerizing beauty of the world around me completely captivated me for what seemed like an eternity. It was a preview of what would come over the next decade and a half. The experience of our natural state of being, which some describe as "Oneness," is indescribable yet genuinely transformative.
That day, I realized in a gnostic way that there was much more to our existence than I can still comprehend, but that my self-talk, positively or negatively, had much to do with the reality I experienced. An interesting empirical fact in my journey has been that receiving Grace is unlike a replicable science experiment. You can do the same practices repeatedly and attain different results; hence, any practices, rituals, or prayers may yield different outcomes even for the same practitioner. However, one of the critical aspects is that one must always be open and a seeker until one finds the Divine within. Once found, one must stop seeking and melt into the fiber of existence, as this is the ultimate spiritual act. The acceptance of reality itself is, in fact, the highest manifestation of spiritual mastery.
In the meantime, one must navigate the complex weave of our relationship with reality and the implications of our positive or negative self-talk, fears, and traumas. Each provides a canvas for us to self-define in front of the experiences themselves. Will we rise to the opportunity life gives us, or will we succumb to the miseries it instills in us? One may erroneously think that financial abundance would take away most of our life's pains. Yet, I tell you, having experienced both ends of the spectrum in these regards, financial abundance is but a mild anesthetic that robs us of the opportunity to fully embrace the forces within us to embody our highest potential. In other words, I know first-hand that my greatest triumphs have come through the embrace of lack and pain, not the soothing of exuberance. Our character and relationship with Divinity are more straightforward when no material distractions exist. The ultimate Truth can only be known to those who find it in the void within. We can’t make the time or space to see the world within unless we are deprived of the outside world. No one can do this for you; one must embark on this journey alone. There are no mentors, masters, gurus, or scriptures that can transfer this wisdom; at best, they can point to the knowledge attained through their journeys. Wisdom is, in fact, a gnostic experience and, in many cases, the result of Grace and our Father’s mercy upon each one of us. All that anyone can do is point you in the right direction, but the road is narrow and full of never-ending steep inclines.
